The objective of OptGen is to minimize the sum of investment costs to build new projects and expected value of operating costs, subject to supply reliability constraints. OptGen is the only tool in the market capable of co-optimizing Generation, Transmission and Dynamic Probabilistic Reserves. That way, OptGen is capable of determining which projects should be constructed and when.

OptGen initiates the optimization process with expansion planning. The subsequent phase, relative to operation planning, is driven by SDDP, our transmission-constrained stochastic dispatch model. This iterative dual-phase approach ensures a detailed and balanced representation of supply and demand. By sharing the same database for operational and investment data, OptGen and SDDP continuously refine the expansion plan ensuring consistency and accuracy across all planning stages.
