{"id":1005921,"date":"2023-10-27T18:06:44","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T21:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novosite.psr-inc.com\/noticia\/ccee-and-psr-workshop-discusses-energy-price-formation-with-the-electricity-secto\/"},"modified":"2023-10-27T18:24:23","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T21:24:23","slug":"ccee-and-psr-workshop-discusses-energy-price-formation-with-the-electricity-secto","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/www.psr-inc.com\/en\/news\/ccee-and-psr-workshop-discusses-energy-price-formation-with-the-electricity-secto\/","title":{"rendered":"CCEE and PSR workshop discusses energy price formation with the electricity secto"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"vgblk-rw-wrapper limit-wrapper\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">One of the most relevant topics in the Brazilian electricity sector today, the process of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">forming short-term electricity prices was discussed in the workshop \u201cMeta II Forma\u00e7\u00e3o de <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Pre\u00e7o: Percep\u00e7\u00f5es e Condicionantes\u201d, held by the Electric Energy Trading Chamber <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(CCEE) and PSR, in October, in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The workshop was the first of its kind within the scope of the study \u201cShort-Term Electricity <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Price Formation: An Analysis of the Brazilian Market\u201d which will be carried out by a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">consortium led by PSR and contracted by CCEE in May this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">One of the main objectives of the meeting, which brought together authorities and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">companies in the electrical energy market, was to present the project to the sector and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">collect suggestions from agents on the current pricing model in Brazil, in addition to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">discussing challenges and opportunities for pricing models by cost and by offer. A topic that <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stimulates discussions and studies in the sector, energy pricing has become even more <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">challenging, in an environment of market opening and greater penetration of intermittent <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">renewable sources in the grid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cThis first event levels the issue of price formation as a whole\u201d, stated the CEO of PSR, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Luiz Augusto Barroso. \u201cThis is a project that will bring a lot of information to the sector\u201d, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Talita Porto, vice-president of the CCEE Board of Directors, highlighted that any change in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the calculation methodology will be deeply studied and discussed with the market. \u201cFor <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CCEE, price is an important variable. We believe that predictability, transparency and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reproducibility are essential in pricing,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Present at the event, the general director of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Sandoval Feitosa, highlighted that price formation is a topic that the market has been <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">focusing on for at least two decades. \u201cThis project will contribute a lot to the decision <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">which path we will follow,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Cristiano Vieira, director of the National Electric System Operator (ONS), also highlighted <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the importance of the subject for the operation of the system. \u201cWhen we talk about price, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">we can\u2019t help but think about the challenges we are experiencing in the operation,\u201d he said, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">remembering that, in an environment with increasing penetration of variable renewables, it <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is important to improve a market design that reveals an efficient price. and, at the same <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">time, support the operator in making decisions during real-time programming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Angela Livino, director of Corporate Management at the Empresa de Pesquisa Energ\u00e9tica <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(EPE), considered the event as an opportunity to debate and monitor the project&#8217;s status. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cThe development of this project brings important elements to planning. The work also <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">involves a phase of analysis of the current cost-based pricing mechanism, which should <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">indicate the advances necessary to improve operational efficiency and economic signaling <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">associated with computational models.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The project is part of the \u201cMeta II\u201d program, established by the International Bank for <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with approximately US$38 million in investments in dozens of initiatives. The action <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">strengthens the role of ministerial coordination, as participants do not pay financial <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">compensation and work together with the ministry.
