The contribution of PSR\u2019s analytical tools towards facing the challenges of planning and operating electrical systems with the high penetration of renewable energies will be the focus of the next edition of the Encuentro Latinoamericano de Usuarios de PSR (ELAU – Latin American Meeting of PSR Users), which will take place between March 18 and 22, in Panama City, Panama.<\/p>\n

A partnership between the Cier Regional Committee for Central America and the Caribbean (CECACIER) and PSR, the event will be an opportunity to explore new features and applications of PSR software, in addition to ongoing innovations. It will also be a time to interact with PSR experts on relevant topics in the electric power industry and the state of the art of the company\u2019s computational models.<\/p>\n

\u201cParticipants will have the chance to immerse themselves completely for an entire week, exploring the essential characteristics of PSR tools and their applicability to current and future challenges in the electricity sector. Furthermore, there will be ample opportunities for networking and sharing experiences,\u201d says Raphael Chabar, executive director of PSR.<\/p>\n

According to Luiz Carlos da Costa Junior, PSR\u2019s technical director, ELAU will be an exceptional opportunity to learn about the latest developments in PSR\u2019s tools, especially operation planning (SDDP), expansion planning (OptGen) and short term power dispatch models (NCP); in addition to tools for generating scenarios for renewable sources, such as the Time Series Lab (TSL).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are joining dozens of relevant companies in the electricity sector from across Latin America, including operators, planners, private energy generation, transmission and commercialization agents and consultants. This broad participation reinforces confidence in PSR\u2019s tools, which apply cutting-edge methodologies and have supported our clients for decades in fundamental activities essential to shaping the international electricity sector,\u201d says Luiz Carlos.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to the networking opportunities between participants from different countries, in our effort to bring PSR even closer to users, we will have the presence of the entire development and support team for our tools at the event, providing an immersive environment for discussions on their uses and most current applications,\u201d adds Ricardo Perez, team leader in support of PSR users<\/p>\n

In addition to presenting the functionalities of the models to support traditional system expansion and operation tasks, ELAU will address the use of software in the face of contemporary challenges, including climate change, the expansion of intermittent renewable energies and the growing complexity of energy transmission network management. Detailed case studies will also be presented, highlighting the results obtained in energy, economic and environmental terms.<\/p>\n

Mario Veiga, founder and director of Innovation at PSR, also highlights the meticulous representation of uncertainties related to the production of intermittent renewable energies, such as wind and solar, in computational models with hourly resolution. Mario also emphasizes the continued investment in representing the flexibility of transmission systems to enable the integration of intermittent renewable plants.<\/p>\n

History<\/strong><\/p>\n

This will be the fourth meeting of users of PSR tools. The essence of the event, first held in 2004 in Rio de Janeiro, has been to promote closer collaboration between PSR and its users, helping them overcome constantly evolving challenges.<\/p>\n

Silvio Binato, expert in International Studies at PSR, highlights the significant evolution of electrical systems since the last meeting in 2012, with the large-scale introduction of solar and wind energy, and the adaptation of PSR models to reflect these changes, offering more detailed and optimized analyses for hourly operation.<\/p>\n
