Luiz Barroso, CEO of PSR<\/strong>, has been honored with the Leadership in Power Award by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES)<\/strong>. This award annually recognizes global industry leaders for outstanding contributions to advancing electrical engineering and its transformative role in the energy sector with significant societal impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official citation of IEEE recognizes Luiz for leadership in power and energy systems through research, policy, markets, and regulatory contributions.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barroso was selected through a highly competitive process involving candidates from around the world, nominated by global energy sector leaders. The selection is supported by recommendation letters that emphasize the impact of each nominee\u2019s work in promoting a more resilient and sustainable energy system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is a privilege to receive this award, which celebrates significant progress across various areas of the energy industry\u2014an industry that is complex and rapidly evolving\u2014and recognizes those who lead and contribute to its transformation,\u201d said Luiz Barroso.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barroso added that receiving recognition from international peers is especially rewarding for his efforts to help shape the energy sector through a multidisciplinary approach involving engineering, mathematics, economics, and technology\u2014and, most importantly, through educating and inspiring the next generation. \u201cThis award also reflects the excellence of Brazilian universities and the invaluable foundation of knowledge I gained at PSR <\/strong>and the Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Tecnol\u00f3gica at Comillas University in Madrid. Their leaders and teams have played a key role in shaping my career, professional ethics, and values.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award will be formally presented during the traditional gala dinner held at the IEEE PES General Meeting in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brief bio:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luiz Barroso is the CEO of PSR and a research associate at the Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Tecnol\u00f3gica at Comillas University in Madrid, Spain. He is the former president of Brazil\u2019s Energy Research Office (EPE) and has served as a visiting expert at the International Energy Agency. His career spans energy systems planning, operation, and economics, with professional experience in over 40 countries. In 2010, he received the IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award and, in 2019, was named an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to regulation, market fundamentals, and energy market design.
