A Confer\u00eancia INFORMS, realizada de 4 a 9 de novembro em Phoenix, EUA, \u00e9 a maior confer\u00eancia de Pesquisa Operacional do mundo, com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o de mais de seis mil pesquisadores. O Dr. Pereira foi escolhido pela IFORS, a federa\u00e7\u00e3o internacional das Sociedades de Pesquisa Operacional, que re\u00fane 50 pa\u00edses, com 30 mil membros, para apresentar a IFORS Distinguished Lecture Plenary. Esta \u00e9 uma das maiores honras que um pesquisador de otimiza\u00e7\u00e3o pode receber. Entre os palestrantes da IFORS, estavam John Nash, Pr\u00eamio Nobel de Economia por seu trabalho em Teoria dos Jogos (tamb\u00e9m conhecido pelo filme Mentes Brilhantes) e Tyrrell Rockafellar, um dos mais importantes matem\u00e1ticos do mundo. A palestra, intitulada Otimiza\u00e7\u00e3o Estoc\u00e1stica, Modelagem Estat\u00edstica e Processamento Distribu\u00eddo Aplicado ao Planejamento Energ\u00e9tico, descreveu algumas ferramentas anal\u00edticas avan\u00e7adas desenvolvidas pela PSR, incluindo o modelo Genesys de planejamento para o Pacific Northwest, uma ferramenta computacional baseada em otimiza\u00e7\u00e3o. que resolve 100 milh\u00f5es de problemas grandes de n\u00fameros inteiros (MIPs) em poucas horas; o modelo de desenvolvimento da bacia hidrogr\u00e1fica HERA\u00a0que otimiza o projeto de usinas hidrel\u00e9tricas e est\u00e1 sendo aplicado em todo o mundo em parceria com a The Nature Conservancy (TNC), uma das maiores ONGs do mundo. A palestra tamb\u00e9m descreveu o suporte da PSR a novas ferramentas de c\u00f3digo aberto, em especial a linguagem de programa\u00e7\u00e3o Julia \/ JuMP, em parceria com o MIT e outras institui\u00e7\u00f5es de pesquisa.<\/p>\n
