IS THE MP998 THE MODERNIZATION OF THE ELECTRICITY INDUSTRY?

OPINION

In this editorial, we address the main provisions of MP 998, which, in addition to addressing more urgent issues related to the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, superficially addresses issues that could apparently constitute the sector's modernization reform.

REGULATORY

In this section, we discuss Public Consultations No. 45 (CP-45) and No. 33 (CP-33) by ANEEL, which deal, respectively, with the theme of seasonalization and the calculation of the financial exposures of secondary energy, in addition to other relevant topics.

WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT

In this section, we comment on the expansion of the use of batteries in the electricity and transportation sectors and on the negative aspects related to their production and use.

INTERNATIONAL

In this section, we discuss a document published by the Chilean Ministry of Energy containing the flexibility strategies for the electrical system, aiming to encourage the development of intermittent and flexible technologies in the country.

ENERGY TRANSITION

In this section, we comment on the initiatives for the development of the green hydrogen market, addressing its applications in the economic sectors and estimated production costs in Brazil.

STRUCTURAL SUPPLY ANALYSIS

It presents the updated balance of demand and structural energy supply for the coming years and our traditional delay meter.
