FLEXIBLE X INFLEXIBLE THERMAL PLANTS: MORE REASON, LESS EMOTION

OPINION

In this Editorial, we discuss whether base load gas-fired thermoelectric plants are attractive to the Brazilian power system in pure economic and supply reliability terms, and we show that the key to the efficient insertion of these plants is their economic competitiveness compared to other generation options for supplying same services to the electricity sector.
