HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM: WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM TEXAS?

OPINION

In this editorial, we analyzed the recent (and current) energy crisis in Texas, caused by an extreme weather event, followed by shocks in supply (due to unavailability of generation) and demand (due to the need for heating), and the lessons for Brazil.

REGULATORY

In this section, we comment on (i) Provisional Measure No. 998 related to the electricity sector that was approved; (ii) the new Provisional Measure to privatize Eletrobrás; and (iii) the 70 billion tariff reduction plan.

WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT

This section comments on the US “Net Zero Emissions” studies, which show what needs to be done to neutralize net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

INTERNATIONAL

In this edition, we discuss the bill recently sent by the President of Mexico to Congress, with proposals that characterize a counter-reform for the country's electricity sector.

INNOVATION

In this section, we discuss the challenges of combating climate disasters and the Digital Twin of Earth project, an initiative of the European Union that arose from the need to improve knowledge of the atmospheric circulation process to create solutions that help control the planet's temperature.

STRUCTURAL SUPPLY ANALYSIS

It presents the updated balance of demand and structural energy supply for the coming years and our traditional delay meter.
