Renewable Sources Insertion: What Can We Learn from Chile?

OPINION

This editorial addresses a great concern of planners and operators of electric power systems: the impact of the massive insertion of renewable energy sources due to the accelerated reduction of their investment costs. We detail the methodology used in a study by PSR for Chile, on generation reserve calculation, taking into account the probabilistic characteristics of these variables sources.

REGULATIONS

Exceptionally, there will be no regulatory section in this Energy Report edition.

WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT

In this issue, we discuss the importance of integration between the planning of the Brazilian electricity sector and the other intervening bodies, for the development of various areas, taking advantage of existing resources and, at the same time, minimizing the impacts.

INTERNATIONAL

This section addresses the integration of storage technologies in the world’s various energy markets. Also, the means by which this integration may be done intelligently are presented.

SUPPLY

This section features the updated balance of energy demand and structural supply for the coming years, including our traditional delay meter.
