Inevitable Things In Life: Death, Taxes... And Base Load Thermal Plants?

In this issue, we analyze the reserve energy auction that may be held by the government to contract natural gas thermal plants to run at base load in the Northeast region, impacting the consumers’ charges. PSR considers that the construction of thermal generation is a decision that must be resulted from an optimization process of generation and transmission systems, and should not be taken in isolation.

In this section, we comment the difficulties in the implementation of hydro power plants in Brazil, especially those with regularization capacity, and we show that is possible to develop the country’s hydro potential in an environmentally conservative manner, using as reference experiences of other countries.

This edition features the updated balance of energy structural demand and supply for the coming years, including our traditional delay meter.

Electronically published since 2006, the PSR Energy Report is a monthly newsletter developed by PSR, whose main objective is to present a comprehensive and current analysis of regulatory, legal issues, water resources and environment and supply of the electricity sector in Brazil.
