PUMPED STORAGE IS PUMPED UP!

OPINION

In this editorial, PSR analyzes an alternative to meet the need for operational flexibility in Brazil with the rapid expansion of variable renewable sources: PHS, which is a proven and reliable technology to complement other storage options and provide the capacity to integrate intermittent renewable sources.

REGULATORY

In this section, we comment on the referrals of the new A-4 energy auction of 2019 and the proposal of the Federal General Accounting Office (TCU) to withdraw part of the energy subsidies.

WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT

In this section, we return to the theme of how to maintain protected areas in Brazil and avoid deforestation, showing that mining and hydroelectric construction activities can contribute to environmental conservation and also improve the living conditions of the surrounding population.

INTERNATIONAL

In this section, we present an analysis of the different business models that can be exploited to remunerate and make feasible the storage technologies - both in electrical systems in general and in the case of Brazil in particular, with special focus on chemical storage (batteries).

SUPPLY

This edition features the updated balance of demand and structural supply of energy for years to come, including our traditional Delay Meter.
