ENERGY PURCHASE STRATEGY IN ACR: BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

OPINION

In this editorial, PSR analyzes the current incentive mechanisms for energy purchase by distribution companies, using as motivation the demand declaration for the A-6 auction in October 2019, and discusses alternatives to improve the efficiency when procuring power purchase agreements.

REGULATORY

In this section, we discuss the following topics: (i) systematic and notice of the upcoming A-6 new energy auction; (ii) guidelines for the existing energy auctions of 2019 and (iii) Public Consultation for the implementation and operation of hybrid lants in Brazil.

WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT

In this section, we review the recent news by the reputable Washington Post newspaper about the Amazon, in particular on the region where the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant was built. In our view, the journalist makes mistakes, although he seems well-intentioned to draw attention to the deforestation of the region and the environmental impacts on the Xingu River caused by the plant.

INTERNATIONAL

In this section, we conduct a quantitative analysis to illustrate the potential of distributed generation across all continents according to three main drivers for their adoption by individual consumers: economic, quality of service, and access to electricity driver.
