In this editorial PSR discusses the theme “separation between ballast and energy” addressing its key issues: what is separation, why is it important to separate and how to separate in order to contribute to the ongoing MME public consultation and seek the understanding that the path to be followed must be the result of a conscious choice that aims to ensure in the future an always efficient and sustainable Electricity Sector.
In this section, we address the following topics: (i) bidding and systematic announcement of Auction A-6 of 2019 (which have been approved); (ii) announcement and systematic of auctions A-1 and A-2 of 2019; and (iii) ANEEL's regulatory agenda for the next 2020-2021 biennium.
In this issue, we comment on a study being conducted by PSR in partnership with the Instituto Escolhas to investigate the theme “Water as an input for the electricity sector”. The study is focused on two Brazilian watersheds, San Francisco, and Jaguaribe, which have presented conflicts between electricity generation and other water uses.
Exceptionally, there will be no International section in this Energy Report issue.
This edition features the updated balance of demand and structural supply of energy for years to come, including our traditional Delay Meter.
