REFORM OF THE ELECTRICITY SECTOR IN COLOMBIA: THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE TRANSFORMING COUNTRY

OPINION

In this editorial, we present an analysis of the recommendations presented in Focus 1 of the Colombian Energy Transformation Mission, which in particular dealt with improvements in the wholesale energy market through two key themes: (i) nodal prices in the short-term market and (ii) mechanism to ensure supply adequacy. For each of these topics, we will discuss the proposals raised, how they fit with the current Colombian reality, and to what extent questions or similar regulatory proposals may be desirable for Brazil.

REGULATORY

In this section, we comment on the review of the physical guarantee for solar plants and on other relevant topics that moved during the month.

WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT

The theme of this section is the current water crisis in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

INTERNATIONAL

In this section, we discuss the recent “up and down” in the reference price for capacity in Mexico.

INNOVATION

In this section, we address the following topic: how do you know if an extreme event (drought, rain, etc.) was caused by climate change?

STRUCTURAL SUPPLY ANALYSIS

This section presents the updated balance of demand and structural supply of energy for years to come and our traditional Delay Meter.
