Workshop promoted by IRENA discussed energy transition in Latin America

Workshop – 01.03.2019

The "Long-term Scenarios for the Clean Energy Transition in Latin America" workshop was held in Brasilia on February 25-26th by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Energy Research Office (EPE). Research and studies on the subject were presented by several companies and institutions, including PSR. Bernardo Bezerra, representing PSR, was one of the speakers and gave a presentation on how to incorporate aspects of market design in the construction of energy matrix evolution scenarios, mainly in a context of energy transition. He also commented on the importance of capacity building on regulatory and market design topics for teams that develop planning studies. The main objectives of the event were to showcase innovative tools and methods for energy scenario modeling; promote the exchange of best practices in the sector's planning; and identify approaches to build and enhance national capacity for clean energy transition planning and to share with countries with limited experience. The other issues addressed during the workshop were related to the use, development and capacity building of long-term energy scenarios. Regarding these subjects, PSR has not only the computational tools for the development of power system expansion scenarios that support the expansion plans of several countries but also the expertise in market designs and the regulatory framework of the different countries.
