PSR and EPE advance collaboration for capacity building in integrated modeling between Generation and Transmission and climate change modeling

PSR and the Energy Research Company (EPE) have intensified their collaboration, with EPE’s objective being to support the strategic activity of developing long-term energy planning studies with integrated representation of Generation and Transmission (G+T).

In February, approximately 30 EPE professionals participated in a training cycle on the use of tools developed by PSR, OptGen and SDDP, internationally recognized for their ability to represent the uncertainties of electrical systems, for the individualized modeling of agents, and for computational efficiency in hourly resolution rounds.

The training brought together teams from EPE’s Generation, Transmission, and Environment areas, focusing on modeling, process automation, and assessment of the impacts of Climate Change on the studies of the Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan (PDE).

The integrated G+T approach, enabled by OptGen and SDDP, allows for a more accurate capture of the interdependencies between generation expansion and transmission network reinforcements, a methodological advancement essential for planning systems with increasing participation of variable renewable sources.
The knowledge gained will be directly applied in EPE’s planning studies.

The initiative reinforces the joint commitment of PSR and EPE to the development of increasingly robust methodologies aligned with the challenges of the Brazilian energy sector.
