PSR selected by Norway’s Transmission System Operator, Statnett, to deliver advanced power market modeling solutions

PSR has signed a contract with Statnett SF, the Norwegian transmission system operator, to provide advanced power market modeling software and associated services.
Following a highly competitive international procurement process, PSR was selected to support Statnett’s mission to ensure the secure and efficient operation of Norway’s power system, which is a critical component of the Nordic and European electricity markets.
At the core of the solution PSR will deliver is SDDP, PSR’s flagship stochastic optimization platform for long-term power system planning and market simulation. For decades, SDDP’s algorithm has been the global state-of-the-art for solving multi-stage, time-coupled decision-making problems under multiple sources of uncertainty. It is widely recognized for its ability to model complex energy systems — including hydro, thermal, renewable, storage, and hybrid resources — with high temporal and operational granularity.
The model enables detailed simulation of market dynamics, resource optimization, congestion management, cross-border flows, and price formation in both the Nordic region and the broader European power markets.
This partnership will further enhance Statnett’s analytical capabilities to plan, operate, and invest in Norway’s transmission system amid the challenges of electrification, renewable integration, and energy transition.
“We are honored to be selected by Statnett as a trusted partner in this strategic project,” said Raphael Chabar, Executive Director at PSR. “Our collaboration will empower Statnett with state-of-the-art modeling capabilities powered by SDDP, enabling them to navigate the evolving complexities of the European power system while supporting a reliable and sustainable energy future.”
The agreement reflects PSR’s proven expertise in delivering mission-critical software solutions for transmission system operators (TSOs), system planners, and energy stakeholders worldwide.
This milestone reinforces PSR’s commitment to supporting the decarbonization of power systems by providing robust analytical tools that enable grid operators to manage increasing system complexity while ensuring reliability, efficiency, and resilience.
